The BMW i8, launched in 2014, was a futuristic plug-in hybrid sports car that looked like it came straight out of a concept sketch. With its scissor doors, flowing lines, and carbon-fiber construction, it redefined what a modern performance car could be. Underneath the dramatic bodywork, it paired a 1.5L turbocharged 3-cylinder engine with an electric motor to produce a combined 369 hp, allowing 0–100 km/h in about 4.4 seconds while still offering impressive efficiency and limited electric-only driving.
The i8 wasn’t built to outgun Ferraris or Lamborghinis—it was meant to showcase BMW’s vision of sustainable performance. It proved that hybrid technology could be exciting, stylish, and forward-thinking, making it one of the most unique sports cars of its era.
